Los Angeles, 1979

Anybody who has followed this blog long enough knows that I'm a tad bit obsessed with the fashion of the '70s. Whether it's lace-up tops, breezy bell sleeves, flare denim, or tan suede, I'm all for it, and have probably featured it on here a good number of times by now. (refresh your memory: 1, 2, 3, 4) This outfit, however, is probably my favorite of them all. Mainly in part because it features two of my all time-favorite brands: Reformation and Chloé. Both brands have wholeheartedly embraced the '70s comeback themselves, making it no surprise that bringing them together made the perfect match. The weather took a small break from El Niño the other day, finally making it warm enough to rock this breezy, tie-up top.  This piece is one of the many fabulous finds I snagged on Reformation's killer Black Friday + holiday sales, so I was excited to finally get a chance to wear it out! I'd also been meaning to get myself a pair of flare denim, and the ones you see here are the ones that I finally got my hands on a few weeks ago at H&M. They fit like a charm, and really add a fabulous '70s flare to any outfit they're worn with. The best part? These bad boys were only twenty bucks.  To finish off this look, I threw on a pair of chunky brown heels with my matching quilted Michael Kors bag.

Hope everyone is having a fabulous week!

A Beautiful Start

If there's one way I'm starting off 2016, it's fabulously. And thankfully, I've stumbled across a fantastic collection of products that have set me and my beauty regimen up quite nicely for the new year!

For most of 2015, my makeup routine had been pretty standard. I had my usual, everyday products that weren't necessarily exceptional, but were convenient and got the job done. It wasn't until earlier this month that I decided to step my game back up and really get back into the habit of quality makeup application. And looking back now, I can't see why I ever stopped! Viewing makeup as something artistic, skillful and enjoyable rather than something monotonously done out of habit makes getting ready in the morning that much more enjoyable. I find myself a lot more pleased with the end result as well. ;)

Listed below are products to get your 2016 off to a beautiful start. I've featured images of the products themselves, shop-able links to each one, and head shots of me wearing most of the items listed. A detailed list of every product I'm wearing is also located at the end of this post.

Here's to a gorgeous year!

Guys, I cannot emphasize to you just how important eyebrows are. I feel like it's common knowledge to other fellow makeup enthusiasts out there, but for those that aren't aware, eyebrows are crucial to any beauty routine. They frame the face, sharpen your appearance, and will no doubt elevate your MOTD to the next level. Basically, good brows will make you look + feel your absolute fiercest. I try to get my brows done at the Benefit Brow Bar as consistently as I can, and doing my brows every morning is by far one of the most important steps in my beauty routine. (right up there with the cat eye!)

I've known about Anastasia Beverly Hills for a while now, but hadn't actually tried any of their products until recently. My good friend Melissa first introduced me to their Dipbrow Pomade, and I'll forever be in debt to her as I am absolutely obsessed with this product. It glides on smoothly, fills in my brows wonderfully and keeps them in place all day. No smudging, no fading, nothing. A little also goes a long way this stuff, so it'll last you a good amount of time. I've been filling in my brows for the past 6 years now, and I can honestly, 100% say that they have never looked better until I started using this product.

While the Dipbrow Pomade is good enough to use on its own, I also like finishing my brows off with their Powder Duo as well. Since my face is on the oilier side, I always feel like my makeup isn't complete until I have powdered it. Topping off my brows with the Powder Duo acts as an extra security measure for me, as it really makes sure the product withstands any excess oil and stays put 24/7.

Alright, so I'm a bit late on the Naked bandwagon, but better late than never right? I will always be a fan of neutral eyeshadow palettes (my blue eyeshadow phase happened in 6th grade/ junior high and will stay there forever) and this is by far the best one I've tried. The palette comes in a luxurious, velvet case and the colors featured in it are simply divine. The shades vary from shimmery to matte, ranging from a light and lovely cream "Virgin" to a dark and smoldering black "Gunmetal". I personally love Sin, Sidecar, Smog, Toasted and Hustle. And just like the Dipbrow Pomade, I'm confident that this palette will last me a good while as well. NAKED also comes with a free double-ended brush and a generous portion of UD samples. What's not to love?

My "Naked" Eye Routine:
Base & Browbone: Virgin
Lids: Sidecar
Crease: Dark Horse
Outer Crease: Hustle
Lower Lashline: Sidecar and Smog

This perfume is undoubtedly a classic. Right up there with Coco Chanel and J'adore Dior, I feel like Flowerbomb has been around forever and only becomes more successful with every year. For as long as I've been reading fashion magazines, I've always remembered seeing ads for Flowerbomb inside them and being addicted to the sample strips that came with it. After years and years of admiration, I finally went ahead and got myself a bottle. I was addicted from the first spray, and it was no doubt worth the wait. The perfume comes in the most gorgeous rose-colored bottle and the scent itself is sweetly intoxicating. It's feminine, sexy and long-lasting. All characteristics of a classic, no?

I have loved Dior for as long as I have been into fashion, and their makeup is no exception. I distinctly remember in 8th grade when I was ecstatic to receive my very first piece of Dior makeup - their Diorshow mascara, which I have unfortunately not bought again ever since but definitely should. Their lipsticks, however, are what I'm absolutely obsessed with and have been using for a good number of years now. I generally select from their Rouge line, but I decided to try something new by picking from the Dior Addict collection. These lipsticks in particular are lighter, shinier and glossier than the Rouge products, which are generally more rich and bold. I have come to love both lines, and am especially addicted to the shade "Not Shy" for Dior Addict as it's the perfect, everyday color. The formula is very moisturizing and comes in the chicest, reflective tube.

5. Anastasia Beverly Hills Illuminator in Peach Nectar

As you can tell by the photo, I use this product quite a lot. It's not just brows that Anastasia Beverly Hill does wonders on: turns out, their highlighters are pretty amazing as well. I bought this product on a whim after being so pleased with their Dipbrow Pomade and luckily, my judgement proved correct. This shade holds the perfect combination of color and shimmer and makes skin look absolutely luminous. I personally love the look of highlighter, and often have to stop myself from going completely overboard with it. A little goes a long way with this product - a swipe on the cheekbones, nose, chin and forehead is all I need to rock a fabulous glow all day. Definitely want to get my hands on the Contour Kit next!

6. Urban Decay Eyeshadow Primer Potion in Original

I actually discovered this product from the free sample I was given in my Naked palette, which I must say was a very smart business strategy on Urban Decay's end. How so? Well it only took me a few tries for me to realize that I was absolutely in love with it and had to get a full sized one for myself. My eyelids can get pretty oily and I'm obsessed with my Naked eyeshadows, so naturally I needed to have a good eyeshadow primer that would keep my eye makeup looking fresh. This primer does just that, keeping everything nicely in place all day and preventing any creasing or smudging from occurring. And although it's technically just a primer, I noticed that the product brightens up the area around my eyes very nicely and can pass as a bit of a concealer as well.

7. MAC Studio Fix Powder Plus Foundation

This is one of those products that I started using only recently, yet feel like I should have ages ago! Studio Fix powder + foundation has been a game changer for me, and I'm confident I will continue using it for a long time. It is a wonderful little compact that goes on super smoothly, stays put all day and has easy, buildable coverage.

8. Urban Decay Naked Skin Weightless Complete Coverage Concealer

As you can probably tell by now, I really like Urban Decay. This liquid concealer provides amazing coverage that doesn't feel thick or chalky. The formula indeed lives up to its name, as it really does go on lightly and doesn't feel heavy after application. A little goes a long way with this product. A swipe underneath the eyes and on any other areas that require it and you're good to go!

9. Colourpop Cosmetics Lippie Stix

It was impossible for me to select just one color that I liked the most, so I'm going to go ahead and recommend the entire collection! ColourPop is a company based in Los Angeles that provides good quality makeup for super affordable prices. And if you follow me on Instagram, you'll know that I also contribute posts for their blog, 1400 West. I've gotten to try out a good array of their products through making these posts and have come to really like them myself! I actually didn't know too much about the brand before writing for their blog, so I must say that I'm super glad that I finally have. Their Lippie Stix are by far my favorite products from them. They're pretty cheap and have a huge variety of colors to choose from (some of my favorites: Grunge, Poison, Creature and Contempo!). The colors pack a punch of pigment but are quite lightweight when actually worn. Poison and Creature (the colors featured above) are especially great for when you want to rock an edgier vibe. Fabulously bold lips for a bargain? Count me in.

11. "Your Beauty Mark" by Dita Von Teese

So, this obviously isn't a beauty product. But anyone who is is into makeup, glamor and just all around fabulousity has got to have this book for themselves. To put it frankly, it is the beauty bible.

Dita has and will always be one of my biggest inspirations. She is one of the main reasons why I am so comfortable in expressing my love for fashion on a daily basis. Her and her approach towards fashion are why I'm able to dress the way I do and feel absolutely fabulous doing so, even if I awkwardly stick out or look overdressed. And just as much as she inspires me with fashion, the same can be said for beauty as well. I had the absolute honor of seeing her discuss this book at an event in LA a few weeks ago and found myself in a prolonged state awe due to how elegant, well put together, and fabulous she was in real life. This women knows her stuff, and the book truly shows it. It's a wonderful piece of work that's informative, well-written and gorgeously assembled. Her personality really shines in this book and it's witty, smart and obviously fabulous. Check it out, babes.

The Perfect Combo

As mentioned before, one of my favorite go-to winter outfits is a cozy sweater dress paired with over the knee boots. I adore both the off-the-shoulder detail and the soft material of this dress, and I'm serious when I say this is probably one of the comfiest pieces of clothing I own. It sure is a win that I can wear it out in public as well! Judging by how many times I feature these boots on here, you guys can also probably tell that I'm still obsessed with them and, really, OTK boots in general. The weather has remained chilly this entire week, so they've come in quite handy for when I want to rock a dress/ skirt but also keep warm. Rich tan and cream are one of my favorite color combinations, so naturally I had to pair the two together for this outfit. I love matching these boots and my Michael Kors bag together as they go with each other effortlessly!

My next post will be a compilation of the beauty products that I'm starting off the new year with. This is the first beauty-related post I have made on this blog so I'm pretty excited to share it with you guys! Stay tuned.

California Nights

I'm now back in Los Angeles, but here is a winter shoot I did up in Santa Cruz (Capitola to be specific). This faux fur coat from Target is absolutely amazing. I managed to snag it on Black Friday and although it's a few sizes larger than what I typically wear, it's super cozy and fits snugly. I think they may have sold out of this specific coat, but fear not - they've busted out many similar looking pieces since then.

Another winter favorite? Over-the-knee boots. A black pair of OTK boots will pair with just about anything and are perfect for those chilly days out. I'm also obsessed with this bodysuit from Reformation, and anybody who has followed me long enough knows that I am head over heels for anything Reformation! They had some awesome Christmas sales going on these past few weeks and you know I had pick to myself up a few pieces - their Lozita bodysuit being one of them.  Expect a few more of their pieces coming up!

As you can tell, my boyfriend and I took a lot of pictures for this shoot. But the lighting was good and the scenery was gorgeous, so we couldn't really help ourselves. On a final note, I hope everybody had a fantastic New Years and is enjoying 2016 so far! I don't really make myself a list of specific "resolutions" or anything, but I know that I've got a few things in mind that I definitely aim to accomplish this year. One of them is simply to make this blog the best I can possibly make it. As mentioned in my previous post, I have a lot of new ideas for this site and a lot of exciting directions in which I'm hoping to take it. 2015 was my first year really getting into fashion blogging, and its brought me to realize that I really do love doing this. I hope to take things even further this year, and continue to express my love for fashion in ways that are exciting, interesting and inspirational. And I hope you as a reader enjoy every part of it. :)
