Downtown Dreamin

It sure is nice to go home every once in a while. I was able to spend the Thanksgiving break back home in Santa Cruz with family and friends, and the change in  environment certainly made it feel a lot more like the fall season for me. The weather was a lot chillier, the trees radiated beautiful shades of orange, red and yellow, and we even got a good amount of rain as well!

The cooler temperatures in SC called for a warm and cozy look, and this cropped fuzzy sweater from Target certainly did the trick - the fabric is incredibly soft, and it also has a subtle amount of cute holiday shimmer in it. And in case you haven't noticed by now,  I've fallen into a bit of a hat phase, making this hat by PacSun a rather inevitable addition to the outfit. It also happened to be one of my first Black Friday purchases! Lastly, you can never go wrong with the sleek combination of black, leather boots and black skinny jeans.

Holiday Essentials

It's that time of the year again! The holidays are fast approaching, and I couldn't be any more excited for all of the fun, seasonal traditions that accompany the winter time. Delicious holiday drinks, shimmering lights, decorations everywhere, classic Christmas tunes constantly playing......the list just goes on and on.

Now holiday fashion is definitely something I enjoy rocking, and listed below are some essentials to ensure you too are rocking the season in style. Whether you're going out or staying in, holiday chic is a look that's easily achievable.

The outfit above is my take on a stylish night out during the holidays, consisting of dark velvets, fabulous shimmer, and sleek leather. One of the best things about dressing up during the holidays is that it's a rather glamorous time of the year, making it so you can really glitz up your outfits to your liking.

I find sequins to be some of the easiest ways to incorporate some signature holiday shimmer into an ensemble, but make sure to do so tastefully. I personally prefer to have one garment that has this embellishment, while the rest of the outfit is balanced out with luxe neutrals. I also love the velvet texture of the Yves Saint Laurent clutch featured. Velvet and sequins are a classic holiday combo, and the additional leather textures incorporated add an edgy modern vibe to the ensemble. When it comes to makeup, the combination of deep, rich plum and shimmery nudes is a solid choice. A swipe of the plum color on your lips will instantly add a bold, glamorous touch to your look, while the nude shades compliment it in a dramatic, yet not overpowering, way. Add on a spritz of your favorite perfume as a finishing touch, and you're good to go!

Now of course, not every single night is going to be spent getting glammed up. You can, however, still rock holiday chic on those cozy evenings in as well. For example, take the sequined glamor of the earlier outfit and incorporate it onto a soft, warm sweater instead. Just how adorable is that embellished pullover from H&M?

Style this piece with other comfy yet fashionable items as well, such as a cashmere scarf, a light, patterned top, and some fabulously cozy lounge pants. The loungewear trend has definitely been on the rise lately, so why not take it one step further this season and add some holiday flare? I also enjoy pampering myself on my days-off, and the cold, dry temperatures of the winter time usually calls for extra moisturizing. A rich, thick body cream can certainly do the trick here, while a soothing lip balm can keep your lips chap-free. Lastly, holiday-scented candles, a cozy pair of slippers, and a nice, warm mug of whatever seasonal drink you like are always wonderful to have. Although not necessarily correlated with fashion, we can all agree that they're perfect additions to any December evening staying in!

West Coast Flare

My apologies for being MIA recently! School has been making my schedule crazy busy, and its been a bit difficult balancing everything all at once. A lot goes into these shoots and when I do them, I really want to make them the best version of themselves that they can be. I would rather wait for when I have more time on my hands so that I can give you guys the best quality of a shoot I can provide, rather than putting up a half-assed one in the middle of a hectic schedule. So there are definitely good intentions behind the brief lag!

I wanted to present a cozy, casual fall look with some West Coast flare and thus came up with this. This one in particular is perfect for a nice, fall day out grabbing coffee with a friend, or whatever easygoing agenda your day has in store for you. As I do with many of my outfits, I aimed to make it work with both warmer and cooler temperatures. Chunky knit sweaters are always going to be a classic fall staple, perfect for throwing on when that light breeze starts up. Crop tops and high-waisted anything go hand-in-hand, and I am especially loving my newly acquired Easy Jeans from American Apparel. And of course, living in southern California ultimately means crop tops are always wearable - even in November! Layering is truly a wonderful thing when done successfully, and I consider it one of the best ways to rock any look during the fall season. After all, all-day comfort with all-day style is a fashion girl's dream come true.

Designer Highlight: Chloé

Spring/ Summer 2015
 Fall/ Winter 2010

If there is any brand that I feel inspires my wardrobe on a daily basis, it is ChloéClean, sophisticated, chic and modern is what comes to mind when I think of the aesthetic encapsulated by this French fashion house, and with every collection presented comes a reinvention of these characteristics in new and stylish ways. Regardless of what direction Claire Waight Keller chooses to take on with the looks of each season, the signature polished core is still always prominent.

When I think all the way back to Paris Fashion Week and the shows that truly left an impression on me, the first one that comes to mind is hands down Chloé's Spring/ Summer 2015 collection.  This specific collection, as displayed in the first row of pictures, skillfully balances a combination of breezy boho with chic, clean-cut, and structured details. It's feminine, flirty, and also remarkably wearable - I could relate to every single piece and could especially imagine a great number of them being worn to events such as Coachella or a sunny, oceanside date. What girl wouldn't want to rock these beautiful pieces? Youthful, yet elegantly assembled. Free-spirited, yet polished. This collection truly has it all.

Fall/ Winter 2010 is another collection that I personally admire a lot. In comparison to the looks presented at S/S '15, this one definitely falls more on the professional and sophisticated end of the spectrum. However, it is still certainly done so in a way that is modern and wearable for a younger audience. I absolutely love the rich shades of beige that are presented in these looks - beige itself is an incredibly luxe neutral, and to pair it with its own variations rather than other tones is a surprisingly fabulous combination. The looks are sleek and refined, and I can once again see them being quite wearable.

Viewing these two collections and their difference in approach goes to show that the versatility of Chloé is vast. Yet as vast as they can be, these collections all relate in the sense that they consist of the beautiful signature touches that make the brand what it is. Whether it be the breezy, free-spirirted vibe that S/S '15 brought us, or the polished and cultivated looks of F/W '10, Chloé knows how to cater to any woman's aesthetic in a way that is universally fabulous.

Beverly Hills Breeze

Rarely is the weather cold here in L.A., so I'll use any slightly breezy day as an excuse to rock some fall fashion. Bundling up in easy layers is one of those Fall traditions I look forward to every year, along with warm coffee drinks, pumpkin flavored treats, and classic, seasonal films. (Hocus Pocus, anyone?) A light sweater, a cozy scarf, some sleek booties, and a flared black skirt are the perfect go-to layering pieces when you feel that slight breeze in the air. They're nothing too heavy, but they're enough to keep you comfortable and also let you have some fun dressing up in those Autumn layers. Pops of faux leather here and there is a detail I love incorporating into my fall ensembles as well. As mentioned before, different textures can be just as eye-catching and stylish as pops of various colors and prints. For this specific outfit, I love the combination of these leather pieces (shoes + bag) with the chunky knit fabric of my scarf. For readers in colder regions, I would recommend throwing in a cozy pair of sweater tights to add even more texture variation.

Just Like Honey

I don't think I've shown a single pair of pants on this blog yet, so I figured the time would be now. I definitely love wearing dresses and skirts but yes, I wear pants too! The Riding pants from American Apparel featured here are one of my favorites, as they fit perfectly with the body and pair with just about anything. They're also high-waisted, which is helpful for any fellow girls with shorter legs.

The vibe I wanted to go for with this outfit was something along the lines of an edgy, downtown look. A cool leather jacket, heeled black boots, metallics, and some sunglasses certainly helps form that aesthetic, and so does the fact that once again, I've decided to don lots of black. As mentioned earlier, black is one of those colors that will always keep you looking chic. My love for brown leather paired with black is also apparent again here - the jacket allows for some stylish extra detail to be added to the black ensemble without distracting from it too much either. I personally find that the two seem to compliment each other perfectly, as does a multitude of other neutral tones paired with black. The  Fall season is a particularly popular time to rock neutrals, however these versatile hues can really be rocked all year long. I personally love stocking up on neutral-tones items - not only can I easily wear them whenever I please, but neutral items in general are simple, chic, and sophisticated. When something is fuss-free and fabulous, it's certainly something worth having in your wardrobe.

Paint It Black

Black is one of those colors that's always going to be in style. I personally love rocking an all-to-mostly black ensemble, and find that it's one of the easiest ways to look effortlessly chic. It's a universally fabulous color and designers and artists throughout history - ranging all the way back from Coco Chanel and Christian Dior to more modern figures such as Alber Elbaz and Yohji Yamamoto - couldn't agree any more. My personal favorite quote about it comes from Neiman Marcus: "Women who wear black lead colorful lives."

You can pair a great amount of colors and prints with a black outfit. In this particular one, I chose to have my statement accessory be my brown leather, zebra print bag from Coach. I love pairing brown leather and black together - it's a combination that definitely adds a bit of extra pop to a black ensemble, however does so in a subtle way that doesn't distract too much from it either.

I also adore this Lulu crop-top & mini skirt set from American Apparel. As stylish as they look together, they also do really well on their own! Both pieces are incredibly versatile and can pair with a great number of other items in my wardrobe. I think I'm getting a lot more into these kind of "set" outfits, both for their overall look and their individual versatility, and plan on stocking up on more when I can. They're definitely a double-win in my book.

A Fresh Start

School has just started for me, and I couldn't be any more excited. This is my first year here at UCLA (my third year in college though, as I am a transfer student) and it's such a thrill being able to call this campus my new school and the city of L.A. my new home. As many of us may know, one of the best things about a new school year is all the fabulous back-to-school fashion we get to show off. It allows us to re-invent ourselves with newly updated and exciting wardrobes, and ultimately enjoy a fresh start with both our academics and our personal style. Fashion, in general, allows us to be whoever it is we wish to be, and a new school year serves as the perfect opportunity for it.

What I like about this outfit is that while it's minimal and comfortable enough to walk around campus in, its also got certain aspects that make it stand out. Its composed of a variety of simple, staple pieces that all come together to create one overall chic ensemble. I always use gold accents to liven up any outfit and this one was certainly no exception. As mentioned in my "Feeling Cozy" post, gold and cream are a fabulously luxe combination that I tend to flaunt often. When I incorporated them into this specific outfit, however, I amped up the combination even more by throwing in some rich shades of tan. Aside from the color of the boots and bag, I also particularly love the leather textures of these items - just as pops of color amplify an outfit, so does the incorporation of different textures.

Choosing to keep outfits on the simpler side has always been a tactic of mine. Sometimes the most minimalistic of outfits can make the loudest statement, and I strongly believe that with simplicity comes a great deal of sophistication as well. Coco Chanel said it herself - "Simplicity is the keynote of all true elegance." You don't need to go over-the-top with bright prints and chunky accessories and the sort to make a stylish impression. Instead, clean, polished looks that emphasize certain signature garments and possess hints of chic detail here and there is a look I always aim to embrace, and an aesthetic that I personally believe will always be fashionable. As stated earlier, the start of the new school year is an exciting time to re-invent yourself and make a stylish impression on campus. Don't, however, confuse it with merely trying to be as flashy and bright as you can possibly be. Keep it simple to keep it fabulous.
